RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Police in northern Brazil are investigating a 14-year-old girl’s allegation she was held and raped for four days at a men’s prison.

The head of juvenile division of the state’s police says the girl sought out a security officer at the Heleno Fragoso prison late Saturday night. Fabiano Amazonas says she testified she had been drugged, beaten, and taken to the prison, where she was repeatedly raped.

The prison system’s press office says the prison’s director and 18 other people already have been fired.

The prison is 26 miles (42 kilometers) from the Para state capital of Belem. It holds 329 men.

In 2007, the case of a 15-year-old girl held for weeks in a cell with 21 men in Para state caused a national uproar.
